Dr. Heiko Kulinna, Head of Plant Support, BASF

Some key dates in my career so far:

06/2015 - today: Laboratory Head of Plant Support 3: Process Optimization on relevant KPIs, Trouble Shooting, Chemical Data Science

06/2013 - 05/2015: Trainee at BASF

10/2009 - 05/2013 Doctoral Studies at RWTH Aachen University

Laboratory Head of Plant Support 3 and Interim Head of Plant Support 1 at BASF Lampertheim GmbHo Chemical data scientist (statistic process analysis, simulation and optimization with DOE, R, NeuroModell and ProcessNet, 5S, LEAN and Six Sigma Principles).  Roles and responsibilities include:
     - Process optimization on relevant KPIs (e.g. yield and quality)
     - Trouble shooting and tap root analysis
     - HAZOP and SHE studies
     - Feasibility studies and raw material tests
     - Supervision of 2 laboratory groups
     - Working in international and interdisciplinary project teams (EVolution)
     - Experience with multistep complex reactions for special chemicals (light and process stabilizers)
     - Experience in up-scaling from laboratory scale to multi-ton scale (> 10 kt)

Latest Achievements:
• multi-step synthesis yield increase from 64.0 to 84.0 %
• with time cycle reduction of 11 % (at the same time)
• several soft-sensor implementations for drying processes
• quality stabilization (and increase) on several processes

My input at remedying day-to-day and strategic problems in plants with applications and solutions where I believe I they can have the biggest impact. I am interested in a variety of topics regarding the application of efficiency of plants, processes, catalysts, prevent waste and improved materials using new technologies like simulations and models with statistic methods and neuronal networks. I'm the author of "Chemical Data Science" (submitted).
